Real-time 3D Sci-fi Environment

In late march 2022, I started Mastered’s Real-time Environment Art bootcamp for the game dev industry to better understand the skillset required to work in the industry.

As part of the bootcamp, we were tasked with upskilling in the game dev pipeline which ultimately led towards producing a high quality sci-fi environment.

Workflow was as follows:

  • Compiling reference imagery
  • Initial block-out stage
  • Creating low-poly models
  • Creating high-poly models to bake to low-poly
  • Creating a decal trim sheet
  • Applying these decals to low-poly models in the texture map
  • Using textures to create the illusion of additional geometry and detail
  • Post-processing in Unreal Engine 5.0 (UE5)
  • Positioning assets in UE5
Software used:

  • Blender 3.0
  • Adobe Substance Designer
  • Adobe Substance Painter
  • Marmoset Toolbag 4.0
  • Unreal Engine 5.0
